5 Reasons why Online Poker is better
Ever since the meteoric rise of Texas Hold em as the poker game de jour a few years ago, playing online has become very popular for players of all ages and skill levels. Online poker isn't for everyone, but for a growing number of players, it's not just a hobby, it's a career. I play mostly for fun and here are 5 reasons why I think playing poker online is better than in person.
1. Access
Before poker became accessible online; you were responsible for finding or organizing a game of your own. If you weren't fortunate enough to know a few people who enjoyed playing, you were pretty much out of luck. Online, you have no shortage of willing participants. Access in the US and abroad allow the game to stay hot 24 hours a day, affording you a great game at any time.
2. Privacy
Let's face it, sometimes you just don't feel like being sociable. Playing online allows you to log on from the privacy of your own home without meeting anyone in person. Don't have an effective poker face? That's ok, on the computer no one can you see you sweat and giggle. Many people value their anonymity, and playing online gives it to you.
3. Practice
Often times, if you're a poker novice, you're at the mercy of the people you play with. It's hard to get good experience while you're being taken for all you're worth. Playing online can allow anyone to learn poker at any pace, with a miriad of games, poker tournaments, tutorials, virtual poker schools and other tools to make you a better player.
4. Varying Bets
Sometimes you want a big money game, sometimes you want a small money game. Many times, you don't want to play for money at all. All of those options and more are available when you play online poker. Different tables in different rooms play for different amounts, limit or no limit and give you complete control over your game and your budget.
5. Control
You never want to let your gambling get out of hand, which is why playing online can be a good thing if you lack self-control. Most of the big poker sites have limits on the amount of money you can spend on the site, helping you keep your spending in check. The important thing is to have fun, not lose your shirt.
